A FLORAL DESIGNER'S GARDEN.

Class will begin again in May 2017

This class is a one day intensive co-taught by flower farmer and owner of Little State Flower Co., Anna Jane Kocon and floral designer and owner of The Local Bouquet, Mary Kate Kinnane. Participants will learn how to plan, sow, and maintain a garden for all three growing seasons.

Ideal for someone who is looking to design a beautiful cutting garden, this class will explore what it means to be a farmer-florist and the true meaning of “field to vase”, starting at the very beginning: seed planning and sowing. We’ll share our tips and strategies for the best ways to communicate with clients as well as brides, and discuss how important the farmer to florist relationship is in having a successful floral business.

MEET THE FARMER.

Flower farmer and the owner of Little State Flower Company, Anna Jane Kocon started her business in 2015 which is based in West Kingston and Portsmouth, Rhode Island. For 8 years prior to starting her company she been growing edible and specialty cut flowers for Eva’s Organic Garden in South Dartmouth, MA for 5 years and Robin Hollow Farm in Saunderstown, RI for 2 1/2 years. Also during this time, she was an adjunct professor at the Community College of Rhode Island where she taught foundations drawing, figure drawing, and art history. Anna Jane started farming as a supplemental job between teaching and creating art, and quickly realized she “spoke the language” and became completely obsessed with all things flowers and farming. Over time, flowers became the central focus of her professional intellect and this obsession and passion has led her to dedicate her life to flower farming and to start Little State Flower Company.
